Sunday was the first ALL DAY FOOTBALL for Tigers played at Bridgetown. With the first trial of 4/5’s & 6/7’s played across the oval at 8:30am, followed by the 8/9’s. All junior grades had a successful day & it was great to see all sides with coaches, team managers, runners, medics & good numbers of players this year.
Thank you to Matt Jansen & Bridgetown Junior Football Club for running a smooth morning of football - we acknowledge a lot of hands on deck are necessary for the games of football to run to time with juniors leading into senior games, something our club will have to do in 2 weeks time, challenging our band of helpers.
The seniors had mixed results with Tigers colts being the only senior team with a win for the day. With both colts teams having a couple of their older players missing from the teams it was a challenge for the depth of the team. Coach Paul Edwards continues to challenge the players & ensure they’re not complacent with their win, encouraging training & growth.
The reserves and league teams came up against strong Bridgetown outfits and the score lines blowing out.
Carmelo Russo’s Reserves team once again played with 13, with 2 league players doubling up, making it hard for those who turned up playing a team with 7 on the bench. Great work to those players who pull on the Tigers jumpers & had a crack. We look forward to more of the reserves players helping out their teammates & making a more concerted effort to commit to turn up every week so the ressies can play with numbers & have a bench - making it more enjoyable for everyone & not relying on players to double up.
With Rob Dawson leading the league team out in his 100th League game for the club, it wasn’t the start wanted. Tigers had a slow start, giving Bridgetown a four goal jump before getting it together & being a competitive unit. The second quarter showed promising signs, but unfortunately by half time with 3 knee injuries, made it difficult to run with an exceptional Bridgetown side of quality footballers. Another injury during the third quarter meant the rest of the game was played without a bench and tested the fitness of the remaining 16 in a hard physical game blowing out to a 20 goal loss.
Moving on from Sundays game, coach Aaron Watson will keep the young Tiger side focussed on the positives & learning from the weekends game - looking forward to coming up against Imperials in the Johnson Cup at the Rec Ground on Saturday - aiming for the return of the Johnson Cup back to Tigers in its 26th year.
Come & support Tigers at Imperials on Saturday - ALL DAY FOOTY - juniors starting at 8:30am!!
