ROUND 2 Tigers V Southerners - 22.04.23

Game Wrap Up:

A beautiful sunny day yesterday, Tigers Football Club welcomed Southerners Football Club to Rea Park for what was to be a successful day of football.

With the Colts team under the guidance of Paul (Plugger) Edwards - they continued to display their skill and teamwork against a young Southerners side. Training is a focus going forward with this group, aiming to get players at this age to commit and communicate and continue to build & improve.

Reserves - following on from a 20 goal loss last week, Football committee member, John Starkie & Reserves coach Carmelo Russo, were able to rustle up more players during the week, managing a team without having to use any colts players to double up. Great to see some old faces back playing & a couple of new faces to the club. Welcome to Stephen Cilemanoff & the Pinelli boys cousins, Isaac & Tyrone Nixon, who played their first game for the club, along with Chaz Russo who’s had a season off football. Great to have all players back to help get a team on the park. With a few injuries to Southerners players & the game down to 11 a side, Tigers ressies had a bench of 4 towards the end of the game, coming away with their first win for the season.

Still needing more players to help out the team and a Team Manager.

Three players made their League debut for Tigers football club, doubling up from their full game of colts & reserves - Conor Cole, Josh Seroka & Braden Pinelli. Exciting times for the club with more young ones given the opportunity to be blooded into League football.

The game started off with a minute silence as a sign of respect for Anzac Day. Tigers, Lenny Reeve proudly stood with the players & umpires, tossing the coin to commence what was to be a great spectacle of local football.

With some sore Tiger bodies from last weeks game coming up against fresh Southerners legs in their first game for the season as a group, the game was high intensity, evenly matched football throughout the four quarters with each break score being within a goal. The game could’ve gone either way. Coach Aaron Watson put belief in the players who rallied together under Captains Joey Parkinson & Jono Millar and on-field leader Rob Dawson to keep it together & keep fighting back winning by 2pts.

The atmosphere coming from the 2013 League Premiership team on the verandah helping the boys get over the line.

Congratulations to all players, coaches & support staff who represented Tigers Football Club yesterday. A long time coming for a league win & a club treble.

Thank you to Dave Meehan and Southerners Football Club. We acknowledge the struggle in retaining players in football in a changing community and credit goes to you all for filling all three sides also with numerous double ups.

Thank you to all umpires, Boundary umpires & goal umpires. The game can’t go ahead without you all & we do appreciate you all putting your hands up to do this role.

More thank yous, scores & photos to follow
